Liverpool has completed the signing of right-back Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen. The deal is understood to be worth an initial fee of around £5 million, with a potential £3 million of add-ons.
“I’m just buzzing and it’s a dream come true really to be here,” said Ramsay, who has signed a long-term contract at Anfield.
“It was a dream come true to play for Aberdeen, and now to be at the biggest club in the world. It’s a massive achievement and I’m looking forward to trying to show the fans what I’ve got.
Hopefully I can come in in pre-season and really show everyone at the club what I’ve got”
Young And Exciting Prospect
Ramsay has impressed this season, with Aberdeen manager Jim Goodwin calling him “one of the best young full-backs in the world”. Leeds United was also interested in the youngster, along with relegated Watford and Italian side Sassuolo. Ramsay is Liverpool’s third signing of the summer. Attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho has joined from Fulham, while Darwin Nunez arrived from Benfica for a total package of 100m€. Klopp is understood to have approved the pursuit of Ramsay very quickly when the idea was presented to him.
The 18-year-old Scot was thought of as a potential long-term rival to Trent Alexander-Arnold. He made 33 appearances for Aberdeen across all competitions in 2021-22, scoring once and providing nine assists. He has also featured for Scotland Under-21. The other right-back in Liverpool’s squad is Neco Williams. However, the 21-year-old Wales international will likely look to move on in search of more playing time. He had a successful second half of this season helping Fulham win the Championship while out on loan.
Calvin Ramsay is expected to join the first-team squad at Anfield.
